Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminum and fluorine with the chemical formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2 . With the Mohs scale of 8 and lustrous texture, the stone is considered to be very different and extraordinary.
It is fluorine aluminum silicate and comes in yellow, yellow-brown, honey-yellow, flax, brown, green, blue, light blue, red and pink and sometimes it has no color at all.

Topaz is commonly associated with silicic igneous rocks of granite and rhyolite type. It is found in various parts of the world such as Russia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Pakistan, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Flinders Island and the United States. At some places one can find Topaz Mountains.

Pure topaz is colorless and transparent but is full of impurities. The Topaz in the most natural form is wine, straw yellow, pale gray or reddish-orange. After many processes and chemical treatments it can be made blue, or opaque to transparent/translucent and many other shades and tones.

This variety is the most sought-after and highly valued among the topaz gems. But these stones fade on exposure to sunlight for a longer period of time.
Blue topaz is also known as Texas state gemstone and is very rare to find. By giving many heat treatments to colorless, gray or pale yellow and blue material is heat treated and irradiated in order to produce a more desired darker blue.

Blue Topaz is considered lucky for people who are born in the month of November. It is said to dissipate sadness, anger and nocturnal fears.
